Tonight we were bolstered by new member Primiano on oboe and trombone player Bruce returning after a break. David Mc played bass clarinet, stretching his record for the most different instruments played in the band to five, we think. A great effort, but was it enough to win our coveted 'Star of the Evening' award?
There was an early bid for stardom during Pirates of the Caribbean, when conductor Bob queried whether anyone's part included the instruction to 'play like a cow giving birth'. Which caused a lot of giggling, but there was no more mooing.
But tonight's clear winner, who fully justified the chair left for her at the top of the clarinet section, was Julie R, with a stunning rendition of Schindler's List.
